Books aren’t people.
That’s a good thing. If books were people, I’d be reading the same damn thing over and over again; no individuality, no unique covers, no untold stories. Society needs its own form of plagiarism. It’s wrong to copy a sentence for what it is, but it’s completely okay to copy somebody else. “To be successful, you must be like [person A.]”
There’s also the saying that our friends define us, that if you want to know a person’s character, you should look at who they hang out with.
Books aren’t people. You can’t define a book by the books it chooses to hang out with, and that’s the difference between the two.
